Global Switch and Partners Open Second Data Center in Singapore

The trio – Global Switch, China Telecom Global Limited (CTG) and Daily-Tech has just launched its new data center in Woodlands, Singapore worth $280 million.
This is the second data center the trio will be opening after the first in Hong Kong which was opened in 2017. Each partner however, have their sole data center footprint/facility as they are all existing players in the data center market.

The trio partnership brings together, resources from China Telecom – an integrated telecommunication services provider, Daily-Tech – a data center infrastructure developer/operator, and Global Switch – owner, operator and developer of large-scale carrier and cloud neutral data centers.
The new facility spans 25,000 square meters in the Woodlands district of north Singapore. The data center boasts of power-efficiency, as its designed PUE (power usage efficiency) rating is 1.34, in comparison to 1.78 which is set by the National Environment Agency of Singapore. They also target a Gold Rating in Leadership Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and a Platinum BCA Green Mark. The Singapore data center design also exceeds Tier III standards.

“The Woodlands data center services will connect perfectly to China Telecom’s network resources of submarine and terrestrial cables and other data centers around the world, setting to become an important element of our worldwide IDC coverage. We will invest more resources and expertise in bringing professional IDC operation services to our customers globally and help them solve communications challenges they encountered in exploring the APAC market.”

According to Li Qiang, chairman, Daily-Tech; this strategic business partnership is a milestone entry for Daily-Tech into the Southeast Asian countries’ market.
The other partners also have individual prospect for this new facility. “Global Switch Singapore Woodlands marks our twelfth, world class data center and has increased our footprint to 4,000,000 square feet of technical space (365,000 square meters),” said John Corcoran, CEO, Global Switch.
The executive vice president of China Telecom, Donald Tan, also expressed his company’s view when he said, “Our tripartite partnership with Global Switch and Daily-Tech offers a range of strong and reliable data center and ICT solutions to customers to support their globalization roadmaps and digitization transformation initiatives.”
The new facility is however, distanced from Global Switch existing data center in Tai Seng. This will enable customers that seek two-site data center solution to explore the offer that will come from the spaced facilities.

According to the Global Switch, Daily-Tech, and China Telecom, their current and prospective customers will be able to access their connectivity-rich environment, including the Singapore Internet Exchange (SGIX), other ISPs and directly connect to Global Switch Tai Seng data center.

  1. Global Switch’s second data centre in Singapore is in Woodlands, to the north of the Island and physically distanced from the two main existing data centre concentrations in the east and west.
